STICK IT ON for nurses and midwives

In addition to 2020 being the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the incredible sacrifice that health care workers make and SPM believes they should be celebrated and thanked.

The STICK IT ON Campaign is a simple and fun way for the general pubic to engage in celebrating what nurses and midwives do. By posting photos of ourselves, alone or with friends and family, on social media people will be joining in on a growing movement in recognition of these special people in our community. The campaign is also an opportunity for the public to donate to the training of health care workers in Karen State, Myanmar.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
1) Draw a smiley face, or write THANKYOU, or Nurses2020 or Midwives2020 on a sticking plaster

2) Stick the plaster on your finger/s, hand or nose (and maybe grab a friend or two?)

3) Take a selfie or an us-ie

4) Create a post on facebook or Instagram along with the message “I’m sticking it on for nurses and midwives”. Add the hashtag #stickingitonfornursesandmidwives

5) Add our Gofundme link www.gofundme.com/f/spm-stick-it-on

6) Post it on your timeline or feed

7) Make a donation via our website or on our Gofundme page

Funds raised in this campaign will go towards our project that supports nurses and midwives in Karen State, Myanmar. The project incorporates a five year training course that will give the students the equivalent of a nurse practitioner or midwife qualification. It also provides outpatient, inpatient, antenatal and pathology services for the surrounding community, staffed by local nurses, midwives and doctors. After the students graduate from the program they are placed in remote clinics run by the Karen Department of Health and Welfare. This is helping to strengthen the health system in Karen State, which has been left decimated after decades of oppression and persecution from the military government in Myanmar (Burma).
