Provision in a pandemic

This story is told by Mawite who, along with her husband Ben, head up the early education project in one of Yangon’s largest slums. The two boys in this story attend the school, and over the past several years the CCM team have been able to support this dad as he cares for his wife and children. In late May the family were one of 350 households who received a food package to help sustain them through the COVID-19 crisis.

U Kyaw Win is 50 years old and has lived in DS for more than 10 years. He has 3 children, two boys and one girl. His wife has a disability. He works in a market and carries vegetables for the stall vendors and earns 5000- 6000 kyats per day. He cannot save money because he needs to provide for his the family and has to pay for transportation to get his work place. He works hard.  Whenever his family gets sick they cannot afford to go to the clinic, so CCM helps and cares for the family whenever they get sick.  U Kyaw Wim not only struggles to provide food for his family but they have a problem with their living conditions.  Their house is in danger of flooding during the rainy season and whenever the rain come the family have to run to another house or tea shop until the rain stop.  Some times they have to sleep at the tea shop.  The house does not have proper walls or roof and also no proper floor.
